Teaching: Visually & Authentically
I love to teach with video and now that I am a coach, I find video to be an excellent way to add a spark to a PD presentation, help drive home a point, or create comic relief. Utilizing video in the classroom also means learners should be creating and developing authentic products to share with the world. I believe video is evergreen; they continue to teach and hold a memory marker.
Videos for YOU...Inspiration & Ideas
I LOVE Ted Talks. This love borders on obsession at times. I'm in love the idea behind TED as much as I am about the talks themselves. Here are a few of my favorite talks tied to education:
John Hunter - The World Peace Game Angela Lee Duckworth On “The key to success? Grit” Another fabulous place to go is a wiki created by Jackie Gerstein called Teaching With Ted. It contains videos along with lesson ideas connected to each one. Jeff Mummert also published a beneficial post entitled TED Talks Demystified For Teachers. In this post, he highlights the videos that he believes are particularly useful for educators and organizes them by subject area. PostRank, which uses an “engagement index” to measure the popularity of web content, has done an interesting analysis of all TED Talks. The have created a spreadsheet ranking all of the Ted Talks. Cool. Check it out. |
